Following that, Dr. Mencia entered into a two year geriatric fellowship program at Winthrop University Hospital in Mineola, New York, earning him an academic degree in Geriatrics and Gerontology. Dr. Mencia is certified by the American Medical Director Association as a Medical Director, where he is one of the delegates representing Florida in the national board. Dr. Mencia is currently the regional medical director for the Extendicare Facilities and co-medical director at Heartland of Lauderhill. He is an associate professor of geriatric medicine at Florida Atlantic University and lectures extensively in the community and around the country. He has acquired a reputation, not only in the South Florida area, but nationally as well as worldwide. He has an international patient base that comes to see him on a regular basis. He attends to several nursing homes in Broward and Palm Beach counties with his associate and advanced practitioners.
